Hockney on Photography
I chose this video because the word  hockney looked interesting and it was this video showed this artist and his progress in his work. It showed his collges and how his worked changed and how he dared to explore the art of the nude. they showed a bunch of his works just like the other videos and showed how he experimented with other things like paint, fax art and photocopying. They also said most of his artwork is not made for public viewing because in my opinion people are afraid of being nude or naked it scares them and when somebody shares it with the world its a problem.

the works of Andy Warhol symbolize modern America. This program takes a look at the Pop Art movement and the life of Warhol through his portrayal of the Ten Lizes. This painting shows his fascination with and his problem. He wants to show celebrities as objects no less commodified than a simple can of soup. Andy warhol is one of my favorite modern day artist.
The Mystical North: Spanish Art from the 19th Century to the Present
lol I picked them randomly, i had no prior knowledge of any of these videos. This video provided some background information of the fascist movement, and the brutality of the Spanish Civil War, and the psychological effects it posed for artists who lived through it.  The video started with Goya, and it was interesting to see his Black Paintings, which is a gruesome painting, was hanging over his dining room table.  I also thought it was interesting to learn that Picasso donated much of his private things to the city of Barcelona before he died. His piece 'Les Demoiselles d' Avignon" shows the influence of African Art by his use of the mask in his painting. Northern Spain has produced some of the world’s most celebrated artists, including Picasso, Miró, Dalí—and Goya, who foreshadowed modern painting with his dark political consciousness.  The problems that overwhelmed Spain as the 20th century came and moved  forward.

The title caught my eye on this one it kind of remiinded me of sunday in the square  in downtown buffalo.Georges Seurat produced, in La Grande Jatte. People discuss and want to know what the fishing woman really fishing for and what do the monke revealed by X-rays to be a last-minute add and the luminous little girl symbolize. Its proportions are all messed up. This video basically critisizes and scrutinizes this painter and his works and shows us a little more than the book would. It gave me an in depth look at other peoples views and how they critisize others works

Line is the path of a point moving through space. i wanted to just keep it basic throughout this process and considering that i cant draw that good. I also tried to use patterns and use rhythm and movement to the unity of the lines. And also the lines show a bit of a pattern. But my inspiration was from the 3 drawings above mine but all in all the basic concept is fire  i showed emphasis on the colors red yellow and orange and a little blue. I used pencil, paint, and markers.

I didnt really enjoy this project because i felt that it was too high school but it did like researching different cultures and there traditions and learning why they use these  mask. I learned alot about african cultures and south american cultures.

The religion’s founder,  Two hundred years later this single Islamic empire had been replaced by a number of competing states. Despite their rivalries, the Muslim rulers of the time shared many ideas on culture and politics, as well as religion.
A three-year-long renovation and re-design of the V&A's Islamic Gallery created an outstanding new home for the collection.
This common Islamic heritage was maintained until the 1920s. By then, almost the whole region was divided between European colonial powers and local regimes with a secular outlook.Throughout this long period Islamic art continued to be produced. It included sophisticated court pieces as well as works of religious art, reflecting Islam’s role both as a religion and a political system.

Questions about the exhibit:
1. What is the title of the exhibit?
Videosphere
2. What is the theme of the exhibition?
Extruded video Engine #

Questions about the physical space:1. What type of lighting is used?
The only light came from the engine
2. What colors are used on the walls?
The Walls were all dark so that the engine can stick out. it seemed like they ussed glow in the dark lights.
3. What materials are used in the interior artchitecture of the space?
it was designed using 3d modeling software, which sarkisian employed to combine hundreds of film clips to form a hybrid object/image.
4. How is the movement of the viewer through the gallery space?
its a big space that can fit about 20 -30 people

Questions about the artwork:1. How are the artworks organized? I really didnt see a pattern in the exhibit but they were all seperated by different rooms.
2. How are the artrworks similar?
They all used similiar lighting and they all used video as some part of the exibit
3. How are the artworks different?
Each artwork has a different meaning an is up for a different interpretation. They all look similiar as in lighting and the fact that it is video but when you watch the video everything changes
4. How are the artworks framed?
They are all either projected from a prjector or played from a tv or on screen

Isaac Julien Western union: small boats, 2007 Three screen projection. He  portrays african and asian stowaways traveling 100 miles every year in order to escape harsh conditions at home. I dont know why thsi reminds me of slavery and people trying to escape the hollicaust but i enjoyed this three screen exhibit.
Jaye Rhee Tear, 2002 Four channel video installation. This piece of work can be interpreted in many differnt ways she says that it is the singular expressive gesture cleverly contrast the diligence of the human spirit and its progress against adversity. But i thought it just showed how a person always has some sort of obsticle in front of them. and her cloth uses great symbolism along with the use of dull colors makes this piece work for me.

Week Seven - Blog: Video Reviews

1. Explain why you selected each of the FOUR videos you choose from the selection listed above.
i really didnt have any reason for picking these videos i just chose the first 4. I didnt really know anything about the videos so either way i would learn something
2. For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned.
In the drawings of Michelangelo video they just want to show us what his paintings look like together.
The leonardo da vinci video was basically a bio of his lifes work and shows how he was a great factor in the renaissance.
The power of art video showed how paintings showed in your face drama and how the paintings made you feel as if you were there. They basically just analyze these paintings.
La primavera talks about so called unappropriate art and how stupid people can be and want to decide what can be considered art and what can be showed or not. I think people can be so ignorant

2. How do the videos relate to the readings in the text?
The videos go into a little more detail and they give us more of a visual. With this i feel i can learn better and more
3. What is your opinion of the films? How do they add depth to understanding of the readings and art concepts? All the videos were basically the same but the one that stood out the most to me was the power of art and La Primavera im a very religious person and this caught my attention with these paintings. The La primavera is very interesting i love when people become unruly over something as little as art when theres way bigger issues.

Week Six - Blog: Video Reviews

1. Explain why you selected each of the three videos you choose from the selection listed above.
I picked the two Greek videos and the Middle ages video because i always was fascinated with the Greek culture since i was a child and the middle ages or darke ages have also been something i have found interesting for example the black plague Knights and its just something that caught my eye.
2. For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned.
Greeks moved toward human centered concerns and discarded religious function. the evolving in realism and telling us how greeks were working at a whole different level of sophistication during their time was a key concept throuhout these videos.

2. How do the videos relate to the readings in the text?
They basically say the same thing as the book but gives us a visual and gives a little bit more detail so that we can have a mental pictgure and actual see the sculptures or the architecture for ourselves.
3. What is your opinion of the films? How do they add depth to understanding of the readings and art concepts.
The films are desent but they look old to me and the narrator is alittle boring. They do add alot of depht by giving us more detail and adding a visual aspect to it.

Week Five - Blog: Video Review (Architecture)

1. For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned.
The architecture video shows us how with each building there is alot of math and strategy behind the design of these buildings. With each building they must take into consideration wind, gravity percipitation and even earthquakes so for the most parts these buildings a are stronger than they look. They also focus on concrete and how they  get skyscrapers to stand so high.
Mathematics of architecture is basically exactly how it sounds. I already knew that with each design there is an equation and they use math in creating these buildings so this video just reconfirmed what i already knew.

2. How do the videos relate to the readings in the text?
Its basically the same thing but it gives us alittle mnore depth and adds the visual aspect to it which makes it more infromative for me.
3. What is your opinion of the films? How do they add depth to understanding of Architecture?
The films are informative very interesting and not to long to the point where i get bored with it. The show visuals helping us understand what is going on. Because it helps a person who has no knowledge of what architecture is.
4. From the group of four that you had a choice: Why did you choose that film?
I chose the architecture film because i have a little backround in it and my major is Mechanical engineering which go hand in hand. Also my uncle is an architect at the smithsonian in washington dc. I have always been .intrigued bybuildings and drawing and helping design them because ive been around it my whole life

week 5 blog video review

1. For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned.
Through the eyes of a sculptor they basically showed us the sculptor Emmanual in his studio and they want us to see the process of creating a sculpture of clay then turning it into Marble.
In tjhe glass and ceramics video the show the glass-making techniques ,which are glass blowing and the art of stained glass windows and how the use of this material has become more and more common today. Especially in modern building which sometimes contain 50% glass
2. How do the videos relate to the readings in the text?
Its basically the same as the text but you have a better visual and can see the process.
3. What is your opinion of the films? How do they add depth to understanding of the topics: Sculpture, Installation, and Craft?
I prefer the video because i am a visual learner and i would like to see what people are talking about. They add depth by showing us the step by step and actually teach us how to do these certain things. The movies were very enlightening and way more interesting than the book.
